PLAY FOR CHANGE

Last week "Play for Change" was published by Centre for Homelessness Impact - a policy paper exploring how sport helps people long before they hit crisis: by offering a safe space to feel a sense of belonging, build trusted relationships, improved mental health, pathways into work, and a positive place to turn when life feels unstable.

What a privilege it was to be invited to contribute this work - through desktop research, interviews with sports providers, and case study writing. It has been an ambitious project that required us to think deeply about the society young people are growing up in, and how the infrastructure of sport can protect, support and provide opportunities for those at risk of homelessness.

I learned so much from speaking with the incredible providers, who are doing a whole range of work within the sports sector, from apprenticeship provision, youth justice, community based projects and trauma informed care. It was clear that sport is already part of the solution, the next step is create a unified strategy that can help us to understand and strengthen sport’s contribution to preventing homelessness.

This project helped me really understand the power of bringing people together to tackle an ambitious goal. Thank you Jo Metcalfe for giving me the opportunity to contribute to bringing your vision to life. This is one I feel VERY proud of!
